Rocket Ship Love

PICTURES IN THE HOUSE WHERE SHE LIVES

In 2003, I started writing the follow-up to Waffy Town. This album started where Waffy Town left off and completed the concept. I decided to take one character and look at the town through his/her eyes. I chose Mary because she really characterizes the Waffy Town album and seems to be the main character of the whole concept. I connected all the songs by making each one represent a picture on the wall of Mary‚s house.

Like Waffy Town, this album contains instrumental snippets and songs to help create the atmosphere of a lovely mystical place...a small town full of unusual people and wonderful places.

WAFFY TOWN – THE BEHIND STORY

When I was offered the opportunity to record my own album in 2001, I was initially afraid. I wasn‚t sure I was cut out to be an artist and to front my own release with all that it entails: reviews, promotion, performances, etc.

Being the shy boy that I am, I pictured myself as more of a behind-the-scenes guy than the main person in a project. However, realizing that few artists get to record their own music with a talented producer, I jumped at the chance and started my journey into the great unknown.

I knew right away that I wanted to record an original album, in which the music painted a story. I was working at a summer camp at the time where the children happened to be drawing animals playing instruments. The drawings inspired me to bring innocent figures to life and create stories about them.

I started with Mr. Piggystar, a fallen rock star who falls in love with a girl named Mary and ends up consulting doctor/therapist Dr. Jeff. After that, more and more characters began to take shape and they each got their own song.

So that the album didn‚t become too extensive or overwhelming for the listener, I decided to find a place where all the characters could live. That place became Waffy Town, which is also the name of the album. There are song snippets and sounds on the album to help transition from song to song. At my request, my father designed a fantastic album cover; 36 pages with descriptions of Waffy Town and biographies of its residents.
